It is possible to have chickens and bees in your back yard. This is a growing urban hobby. This class will cover all the details of coop design, hatching chickens, caring for a small flock. Also we will discuss keeping a hive of bees through to harvesting honey.

Top 10 Landscape Mistakes to Avoid

Learn how to design the best edible landscape possible keeping in mind some essential design elements and concepts. In addition the class will address common mistakes to avoid. This is a great class for those wishing to do their own garden design and installation.
3. CNG – 310 California Native Gardening
Thur. August 12, 2010 • 6:30 - 8:30pm
How to grow the best heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Detailed look at varieties, correct growing conditions, soil condition, and pest control. Maintaining the summer tomato, pepper and eggplant patch. Growing from seed, hardening off and transplanting will also be covered.
4. CV - 210 Composting and Vermi-culture Class and Lecture

A real in depth look at composting and vermi-culture as a way to create great soil. This three hour theory and hands on class will include all methods of composting garden and kitchen waste. Also , how to set up and maintain a worm bin system, Compost and worm teas, use of green crops and the soil food web will also be covered.
5. DPEG - 310 Designing, Planting and Installing an Edible Garden

An overview of how to design, plan and install an edible garden. Topics covered to include site selection, soil conditioning, raised planters, plant selections, seasonal issues and organic pest control.
6. RS - 310 Roses / Selection / Diseases /
Organic Pest Control / Fertilizing/Pruning

An in depth look at rose growing in Southern California. Varieties available and their suitability to our climate, correct soil preparation, sunlight requirements and feeding. Irrigation, pruning and organic pest control will also be covered.
